Finally making up for lost time, India’s airpor ts are being upgraded and modernized at a fast rate, with the help of the private sector. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) currently owns 127 airports including 16 with international services, 79 domestic airports and 27 civil enclaves in military air fields. However, only about 60 of these have worthwhile, regular, scheduled services, which is totally inadequate for a country of 1.1 billion people.
